Check Up
What is medical check up?
The primary aim of the modern medicine is to prevent occurrence of diseases by taking necessary measures.
Early and accurate diagnosis is of great important in terms of both life time and life quality in coronary artery diseases, cancer, hypertension and many other diseases, which are common conditions of our age.
Check-up also aims determining age-, gender- and smoking-related risks and diseases caused by hormonal changes in particular periods of women’s life (pregnancy, menopause etc.) and investigating familial risks of diabetes mellitus, coronary artery disease, stroke and cancer.
Check-up refers to a general and comprehensive health screening for a person with no active complaint or very mild complaint that does not suggest a specific illness.
Every person should go through general health screening at regular intervals, even if there are no complaints. If the check-up patient has documented risk factors, the doctor should be visited at shorter intervals or at intervals instructed by the doctor for general health screening.
The general health screening or check-up starts with the review of health history, family history, prior diseases and age- and gender-related risks. This overall assessment is followed by a detailed review of all body systems (nervous system, respiratory system, cardiovascular system, digestive system, respiratory system, etc.). Blood and urine tests and imaging studies, such as ultrasound and X-ray, are ordered for more detailed picture of the general health. In addition, extra examinations can be ordered in the light of findings obtained until this stage. For example, thorax CT, pulmonary function testing, PAP smear and mammography can be ordered for persons with family history notable for cancer. Extra examinations (such as PAP smear and mammography for women; PSA and prostate ultrasound for men) are requested considering age and gender of the person who seek a general health screening.
Your periodic health check-up is planned by your doctor with special packages that are designed regarding your age, gender, profession and life standards. Our partner determines your personal risks by reviewing your lifestyle, personal characteristics, habits, expectations and familial predispositions, beyond standard check-up programs, and a check-up package is offered in line with your priorities.
The patient should have stopped eating and drinking in the mid-night, as the screening will start with blood and urine tests and imaging studies. Afterwards, the person interviews with the check-up doctor and all complaints and other details are noted and a very comprehensive physical examination is made.
Check-up results are reviewed jointly by the check-up doctor and medical reports issued by laboratories and radiology department are combined with ECG report issued by cardiologist and all other reports written by relevant physicians in order to make personalized recommendations. If any abnormal finding is noted, further examinations and laboratory tests are ordered and the person is referred to other clinics and units.
